5 highest paying photography careers

Everyone desires to be able to make good money while doing what they love to do on a daily basis. This is one of the main reasons many passionate photographers turn to a career in professional photography.

In this article we are going to look at the 5 highest paying photography careers.

1 Working as a commercial photographer

Commercial photography will mostly entail working with brands that are looking to design creative marketing campaigns for their various commercial products or services. As a professional in this field you will work with a wide range of clients from diverse industries from real estate, to FMCG, to schools, to media and many more. Here, the amount of money you make will mostly depend on the project budget and in most cases it can be really high.

2Working as a portrait photographer

Portrait photography is a very wide field as it can be applied in a wide variety of applications from personal artistic self-portraits to weddings, schools and even professional portrait photos. Here, as a professional, you have the option of working on site that is where the client wants the photos taken from or setting up your own studio.

3 Working as a scientific photographer

Working as a scientific photographer is a more specialized profession because it requires a very specific skill set as well as specialized equipment. Here, as a professional, you will mostly use your photography expertise to document scientific concepts and bring them into life through photos. This may range from taking photos of very minute elements invisible to the naked eye and blowing them up, deep sea photography, and many more.

4 Working as a photojournalist

A photojournalist is predominantly attached to a news agency, a magazine, or any other publication and their job will often entail documenting news events through photos. This is also a specialized profession because the photographer will be required to capture photos that can tell an entire story without having to use words. They will however also be required to write a small summary of what the photo is about for the benefit of the editorial team as well as the viewer of the photo.

5 Working as a freelance photographer

A freelance photographer is essentially a photographer who can do any of the above work the major difference being that they will not be employed by any of the respective companies but rather work on contract basis. Every job that they do for an organization is independently negotiated and contract terms and deliverables decided.  The benefit of going freelance is that you can work for multiple clients at the same time provided there is no conflict of interest.

As an aspiring professional photographer, the choice of field you opt for shouldn’t be driven by money but rather passion for the job. At the end of the day, you will enjoy a more fulfilling career if you enjoy what you do.
